300% Salary hike for MPs
NEW DELHI : The Cabinet, at a meeting, approved a proposal to raise the Basic salary of MPs to Rs. 50,000 from present level of Rs. 16,000.
Apart from a salary of Rs 50,000, both constituency and office allowances will be raised to Rs 40,000 each from Rs 20,000 at present. Though these allowances are against expenses, MPs will be be able to draw Rs 1.30 lakh a month, which is much more than what the cabinet secretary gets at Rs 80,000 a month.
Limit for interest-free loan for buying a vehicle has gone from 1 lakh to 4 lakhs,
Road mileage for vehicles raised from Rs 13 per km to Rs 16 per km,
Pension benefits increased from Rs 8,000 to Rs 20,000 per month,
MPs’ spouse can now travel any number of times in first class or executive class.
Still the members from various parties expressed their unhappiness over the decision. However, there was some relief for the government when BJP expressed its annoyance with the ugly protests inside the House.
