Symbol for Indian Rupee Curency
Most of the international countries have there own currency symbol, there is no official or special symbol for our Indian currency. The Indian rupee will soon sport a new unique sign like $ (US Dollar), £ (Great Britain pound), € (Euro), ¥ (Japanese Yen), etc. that will be recognized worldwide.
The finance ministry guidelines had stated that the symbol should represent the historical and cultural ethos of the country.
The Government of India has short listed five designs, These five designs were short-listed from over 25,000 applications received from across the country. And now the Members from Reserve Bank of India and art institutes like National Institute of Design, Lalit Kala, Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art, and other would comprise the jury that will select the official currency symbol.
