Shakira took the stage at the closing ceremony of the 2010 FIFA football World Cup on Sunday (July 11) in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Nearly 800 cast members, including some of Africa’s top musicians and dancers, will perform at the stadium. Themes included pantsula and gumboot dancing and local jazz – all touchstones of South African music.

The ceremony was attended by heads of state from across Africa, including South Africa’s Jacob Zuma and Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe.

Aside from Shakira, other artists at the ceremony include Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Jozi, Stoan Seate, Slikour, Zuluboy, Abigail Kubeka, Theo Kgosinkwe, Afrikaans artists Nianell and flutist Wouter.

Shakira told to press, “I have been enjoying the football World Cup like any other fanatic. And since I am a Hispanic, I will be rooting for Spain. They have been a great team and the kind of football they played this time has been pleasing to eyes.”
