Salman khan wants to buy IPL franchise
Salman Khan may be the latest star from Bollywood to join the IPL bandwagon. The superstar has been in talks with the Indian Premier League chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi regarding buying a new team for the fourth edition of the IPL Twenty20 tournament held in 2011 which will see the addition of two more franchises. The league presently has eight teams and now set to introduce two new teams - Kochi and Nagpur .
On Wednesday, Salman Khan had a formal meeting with Lalit Modi and he discussed with him the nitty-gritty of buying an IPL team. “We were having a discussion for last few months but this is our first official meeting,” Modi said, adding that it was too early to say anything but he felt that Salman seemed like a “serious buyer”.
Mr. Modi also admitted that many other celebrities have expressed interest in buying a team in the IPL although I don’t want to name them,” he said.
If Salman buys one then he will be yet another entrant into the star-studded IPL. Presently, Shah Rukh Khan & Juhi Chawla (Kolkata Knight Riders), Preity Zinta (King’s XI Punjab) and Shilpa Shetty (Rajasthan Royals) have stakes in IPL cricket Teams.
Modi said, The tenders for the two new IPL teams will be floated in December so the IPL organizing committee will inform all the prospective buyers once it begins the bidding process. The franchise may “cost over USD 200-300 million”.
