Google Chrome OS
Google jumped into Microsoft’s biggest belt – the operating system. Google has always been in heated competition with Microsoft.
Now the much rumored news from Google to step in to OS arena has been confirmed. According to Google, the open source OS will be available in 2010 Called Chrome OS.
The post on Google Official Blog says:-
ΓÇ£Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks. Later this year we will open-source its code, and netbooks running Google Chrome OS will be available for consumers in the second half of 2010. Because we are already talking to partners about the project, and we will soon be working with the open source community, we wanted to share our vision now so everyone understands what we are trying to achieve.
Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and they are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. While Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) already offers a host of products that compete with Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500), the new operating system is a direct challenge to Microsoft Windows, which is the most widely used operating system in the world.
Google Chrome OS will be aimed not just at laptops but also at desktops for those who spend a lot of time on the web. Google Chrome OS is aimed to provide speed, simplicity and security. It has been designed in such a way that the OS is fast and lightweight, to start up and get you onto the web in a few seconds.
We thought that the competition was becoming hot again when the company behind the dominant Windows OS launched their new search engine Bingbing with much fanfare. Googles announcement Chrome OS comes at an interesting time where Microsoft is poised to launch its new operating system Windows 7.
